This little guy is known as Dragon Fruit.  I picked him up at the North Shore Farmers Market yesterday with my good friend Monica.  This morning, it was my motivation for waking up :)  These odd looking creatures do not disappoint!  While they’re very cool looking on the outside, they’re even more interesting and delicious on the inside!  But before we get to the taste and nutrition, lets explore the outer shell…

Did you know that this dragon fruit belongs to the cactus family?  If you’ve ever felt a cactus, they do resemble each other.  The shell also resembles the feeling of my pet dragon :)  Just kidding, but it’s pretty easy to use your imagination on this one, the name is dead on!

The flesh is packed with loads of vitamin C, fiber, and calcium.  The calorie count is low and the taste is delicious so eat up!

The texture and taste resemble a kiwi but you get a larger amount from dragon fruit and you don’t have to work so hard at getting the fuzzy stuff off like you do a kiwi.

Have you tried a dragon fruit before?  Get out there and explore with different fruits and vegetables!  Strive for a rainbow of color, it significantly reduces your risk of cancer.  Now that is worth eating for!
